The Top 50 Albums of Year 2010… #17 BEACH HOUSE “Teen Dream”
17. BEACH HOUSE “Teen Dream”
This dreamboat of a love record was introduced to me by the listening ears of – funnily enough – somebody who broke my heart when I was a Teenager, when I recently caught up with him while he was visiting the beaches near my home over the December holidays.
The irony of all of this is not lost on me.
It’s hard not to find an attachment to this precious record, following in the similar soundscapes of Memory Tapes, which nails that starry-eyed Teenager-in-love feeling almost as brilliantly as the Katy Perry song of a similar title.
“Real Love” (which it definitely was not, but when you’re that young you certainly think it is) is the highlight, pushing near six minutes of absolute musical (and lyrical) heaven, but it’s album closer “Take Care” that perhaps shines slightly brighter, serving as a cosmic musical letter to the immediately heartbroken. Sublime and – perhaps – a little hard to stomach at times, but for all the right reasons. Music should make you feel something. “Teen Dream” makes you feel it all.
