2007 :: Remixes Of The Year.

First of all, Happy New Year everyone, and here’s to a prosperous Two Thousand and Great!
So this is my second last post dedicated to the year that was 2007. The last one will make an appearance sometime next week; it’s just a reflection of sorts and I’m still not finished with it yet. But todays particular ‘07 inspired post is the one I’ve most enjoyed putting together. I’m quite a big dance music fan, have been since I can remember and it’s a musical taste I can thank my Mother for playing to me in the 80’s, and my Aunty and Uncle playing for me in the early 90’s. The brilliant thing about remixes is they can often turn a pop/indie/whatever song into a great stomping dance anthem. Sometimes these remixes turn out to be better than (or, in the very least, as good as) the original versions, but sometimes they don’t offer the listener anything other than pain. The following list of songs is a great representation of the former.
In previous end-of-year lists I’ve always included the reswizzle as apart of my overall songs of the year countdown, but this year I’ve given the remix its own list. It should be of no surprise that Van She’s Vanshe Tech remix project features heavily on my countdown.
In case you haven’t had a chance to hear some of these remixes, I’ve popped them all into a zip file for download via Megaupload. If you can’t download from that server, just let me know and I’ll put it up somewhere else as well. All 27 tracks fit perfectly on two 80 minute discs.
I was going to write little bits of detail for each of the remixes, but because I’m giving you all of these brilliant tracks in a joyous zip file, I figured I’d just let the music do the talking instead. Hopefully, you’ll enjoy these absolute corkers as much as I have.

Phil: Thank you very much, ditto, two-fold Mister
xo: The mere thought of it has got me in quite a state. I can’t even begin to imagine what it would sound like, but I’m sure I’d be all over it like a rash!
Toge: Let me know what you think of them!

Ooh, I can’t wait to here them all! The ones I have heard I LOVE (Feist, GA, Delta) Although I woulda included at least one of the Freemason’s jobs with Beyonce. Their work on “Ring the Alarm” was one of my favourite songs of ‘06 and “Green Light” one of my fames from ‘07.

“fames” = faves, obviously.

Glenn: Number 11, Beyonce Green Light (Freemasons Mix)
The Shakira/Beyonce number was Number 28, but a top 27 sounded better than a top 28 and it wouldn’t fit over 2 discs otherwise.

Not big on remixes, so I don’t have a comment. Oh, well, I guess I did, after all.

Must say that your taste in remixes suits mine! 9/10 for this list, superb!
From 2007 I personally love Al Usher’s remix of Amy Vino’s Tears Dry on Their Own, The Twelve’s remixes of 2 Hearts as well their remix Asobi Seku’s Thursday and Eli/Grayson’s remix of Gimme More by the shaved head mad woman
I must (regretably) say that MSTRKRFT’s remix of D.A.N.C.E. is too over tampered with compared to the near perfect original, I prefer Eli/Diplo’s remix, it retains what made the original so good but turns up the dial a little to make it a little bit more clubby.

I was positive i had commented on this but i guess not. that was so bitching remixes there dude. I’m not big on remixes but sometimes you find ones that actually enhance or reinvent a song and it becomes as fresh as a freshly wiped femfresh ladygarden. Marv.
