eprofile: van she

Van She are one of the most talented bands in Australia. Their live shows are incredibly tight and the musical output is heavenly, and something of an obsession of mine. The guys have an ACE new single out NOW called "Cat & The Eye," and that long awaited debut album will follow early next year, with a new single in February. To celebrate, Tomek, Michael, Matt and Nicholas as Van She feature in the first eProfile.

E-BUY VAN SHE

The First Truly Great Song Of 2008.

I’m not sure how sick you all are of the Van She overload of late on the website. But in my defense, I have seen them play quite a bit in the last couple of months after not hearing much from them for an unhealthily long period of time and their new single Cat & The Eye is STILL being hammered on the ole iTunes, so the guys have definitely played an integral part in my music related thought process of late. Plus, with a new album only months away, I doubt the hysteria will die down anytime soon. So if you are sick of it, maybe you’ll just have to de-bookmark the site for a while.

There are a bunch of unreal new songs set for the upcoming Van She album that are going to blow people’s socks off. One in particular, called Strangers, is incredibly fierce, with one of the most euphoric chorus’ I’ve ever heard in my history as a music fan. Explaining the wonder of this song is demonstrated best by simply putting together a case of mathematical examples. Maybe. It should probably be noted I was never very good at mathematics. Actually, this is probably more of a comparative essay in miniature form, rather than it having anything to do with mathematics… Er…

Van She’s most poptastic song is 2005’s Kelly. Kelly is possibly the greatest Australian Pop Song of all time. When released, Strangers will become Van She’s most poptastic song. Around the same time, Strangers will also be the greatest Australian Pop Song of all time, blowing Kelly’s “possible” holder of that title right out of the water.

Van She’s best remix is of I Am Finn’s I Love You. It is very good and would get the grumpiest of nightclubber’s moving their toosh. Van She’s Strangers is so magical that - in comparison - their remixes - including the I Am Finn one - just aren’t as danceable.

You know the sound that a fresh can of soft drink (or Soda for those in the States) makes when you crack it open? You’ll agree it’s one of the most rewarding sounds; particularly on a hot Summers day. Strangers is as satisfying as cracking open a can of Soda, one with the sound going nuts for 4 whole refreshing minutes. You could, I guess, even say Strangers was the musical (and beverage) equivalent of an orgasm.

I am basing all this on hearing the song quite a few times live too, I don’t actually even have a studio version of it yet. That should tell you something.

I haven’t been this excited about an album release in a very long time. I don’t think I was this worked up even in the lead-up to Madonna’s Confessions On A Dancefloor being released. April really couldn’t come any faster, could it?

I also noticed this morning that Van She got another (brief) mention on Popjustice. Still not for their original stuff, but again for a remix effort, but I suppose it’s better than nothing ey? I’m sure there won’t be a website in site (HAHAHA!) not mentioning the boys’ original material come the fourth month of 2008. I guess three years too late is better than none, right?

More Van She next week, just saw the guys play on New Years Day at The Hot BBQ Music Festival which I’ll be reviewing.  I also caught my beloved Divinyls, Cut Copy, Bumbelbeez, Bang Gang DJ’s, Lost Valentinos, Uffie & Feadz, among others. Text and photography next week…

Seriously Adem, you are an asset to these guys, publicity wise, you are such a Van She whore theyve surely gotta love your arse. If you’re looking forward to something more than you have a release by Madonna, then I can pretty much be assured it’s going to be fucking brilliant. Isnt madonna like your god or some shit?

Just let it be known I bought the 2005 EP on itunes when you did the eprofile thing and recently bougght the cat and the eye ep as well, purely on your recomendation. Thought that might please you.

That does indeed please me Liss, and wasn’t the purchase of those two EP’s completely worth every penny you spent?!

  3. PaulieZ Says:

well i guess i had better succumb to the van she madness now before i get trampled to death in the rush. Your enthusiasm for them just enhances my desire to rush out and listen to the music now. Now i tells ya!!

I love Van She sooo much, but Im so annoyed that I can’t buy a copy of Cat and The Eye just because I don’t live in Oz! Thought we’d got past all these kind of restrictions. Great post.

  5. Adem Says:

Paul Zapping: Yes you must! They are synth gods!

paul: Hrmm, that’s a bit shit isn’t it? Maybe if you request that your iTunes gets the track, they might pop it up? I’m sure that’s worked in the past for other things… I’ll see if I can chase up some sort of International release date too…

  6. Paul Says:

Ah, Adem, you’re a true gent. Perhaps the only one in Australia! Peace.

  7. J'ason D'luv Says:

Has one of them got a monster package? Just curious, because that’s what makes good music…

  8. Faisal J. Says:

You talk about these guys enough that there is obviously going to be interest in them among the readers now. i’ve got friends from melb who i showed this site to a while ago who are now regular readers, and the three of them all made the effort to check van she out at hot barbeque on new years day just on your recomindation. and they really like them, so i guess you were right.

i saw these guys play early last year here in sydney and they’re great live, still havent bought the first ep but did grab cat and the eye from itunes.
