Technotalk.
There’s so much incredible music floating about at the moment, and so much of it is pushed to the back-burner when it comes to reviews for the magazine I contribute to each fortnight. It’s sad that quality music, ready for discovery, is unopened for months to give way for things like, for recent example, that awful new Pussycunt Mole’s album. I had to sit through THAT when I could have been deflowering something more interesting? Ugh, it’s just so disappointing. Of course, ripping their sophomore “album” to shreds in the review I plan to pen will be a task I am most looking forward to this coming weekend, and hopefully will work as some kind of therapeutic release from the devastation left ringing through my ears after my experience with this particular brand of STD-Pop the band seem to be the poster girls for now that X-Tina has discovered (Lady GaGa’s) clothing.
There’s this incredible Sydney band I want to introduce you to after the weekend. They’re very good and have just released their instant-classic debut E.P. Was lucky enough to have a chat to the lead vocalist and he was beyond bloody charming. More on those boys come Monday…
Anyway, there are a couple of records I’ve been meaning to mention on the site but haven’t gotten around to. I thought, after all my Mole-bashing, now was as good a time as ever.
TECHNOLOGIC - CLASSIC
Technologic are a history-referencing musical duo (made up of Ray Grant and Martina Mars.) There is quite a lot on offer here for those of us with an interest in the pop music history the likes of the Pet Shop Boys and Rollo (who was, for many years during the 90’s, someone I claimed as my favourite producer of all time) have written into the archives of years gone by. Stuff that really sticks out on here are tracks like “We Can Be”; a solid, euphoric corker with one of the greatest, unashamedly 80’s-synth-loving choruses I’ve heard in a very long time. Every so often I’ve spoken of my love for Italo-disco King Fancy on the website before; this particular track makes me think quite heavily of his ace single “Slice Me Nice.” “You Can’t Fail When You’re In Love” follows in the same vein, and comes complete with a gorgeous, string-fronted middle-8 that is filled with so much warmth. Then that bloody key change comes in and rips you apart in the best of ways. “Love Letters” is a track which Ray & Martina themselves admit to being very influenced by Rollo productions (which is not only evident through the song, but very much welcomed) of the 90’s club era he truly hailed in. There’s an element of Miss Kittin through the verses as well, all due to Martina’s unique vocal delivery. My favourite on the record has to be “From: Chicago To: Detroit,” which starts off sounding A LOT like Divine’s “Native Love” and Donna Summer’s “I Feel Love,” before turning into an electroclash love-fest. “We were basically busy being Miss Kittin and the Hacker at that point,” says Ray in the CD liner notes. It shows, yes, but is also the strongest moment on the long player. This record is available on iTunes AUS, and various other spots online. You can also pick up the equally as ace “Further Listening 2003 - 2006″ on The iTunes as well. If you’re keen on that clashy, 80’s/90’s infused blend of dance-cum-pop music, then this is right up your alley. Check out TheirSpace for more info.

WILL W - BODY TALK
Will W is no stranger to the world of blog entries. He’s had some rather solid write-up’s from some of my favourite web personalities, but I’ve still yet to give up my opinion on his debut effort Body Talk. But how good is the opening track? I just love how George Michael-Star-People “Gettin’ 2 Know U” is. “Star People” is one of my favourite Michael, G songs of all time and this really meshes the essence of that song quite well with that sorely missed male-fronted big-vocal-house movement from the late 90’s/early 2000’s. If there’s a sound I’d really like Will to explore more in the future, it’s definitely something like this. It’s so brilliantly focused on the dancefloor and completely accessible from a commercial perspective. “Bigshot” is quite a stomper; listen to that bit from the 2:11 mark - HOLY MOTHER OF GOD; Quite good, yes? That nice little touch is followed by a key change which, as you’ve more than likely assumed, is a bit of a musical holy grail when it comes to my ears. “Carrie Bradshaw” reminds me slightly of the verses in Prince’s “Little Red Corvette.” And yes, it is about THE Carrie Bradshaw. xo mentioned “My Life Story” would make a blinder of a Sugababes song and he’s bloody well right. I can just picture Amelle and the other two totally making this their new “Run For Cover,” don’t you? Whether or not it lands at Amelle’s house is irrelevant though because Will’s performance of the track is incredibly solid. I’m not so taken by his cover of Madonna’s “Crazy For You” though but, really, that may have more to do with Madonna being A Sacred Entity Around These Parts, rather than whether it’s a nice enough interpretation or not. Hey at least I’ll admit it. Will can also be found on Aussie iTunes, by the way.

ooo Will W! He is now officially blog-ubiquitous and quite rightly so. If the new act you mention is the one you casually dropped into conversation t’other day, then yes hurry up with that post you little cock tease
What No Mention Of Ladyhawke’s album?
I totally agree with you Re: Doll Domination - Shiteous!!!
Glad You’ve listened to Will - Bodytalk is great!
Totally agree…Getting 2 Know U and Bigshot are powerhouse Will-W singles. I have to disagree with ya on the Madge cover. Sure it’s not Madge but I think the innocence and sweetness of the original is in Will’s version.
Paul: Yes, it is that act.
Aaron: HAHA. I can’t go on about the Ladyhawke album forever can I?
Yuri: I definitely see the innocence and sweetness in Will’s version for sure, I just think it also comes down to the incredibly strong personal connection I have with that original version of the song. I don’t think Will’s version is awful in the slightest; it’s actually really well done, but not my cup of tea, I suppose? But yeah, G2KU and Bigshot are FABBO.
gaa!!
