I agree with all of the above, but what I can’t stand is the very obvious shock value this video has. It has a currency created by the band themselves. As well as the kudos and credibility, this opportunity represents immense exposure for the band. They will ultimately make money from it. Art be buggered, they’ve hit on a cash trigger and then they hide behind ‘artistic statement’. Cheap.

While I do not believe the highly stylised violence of a madonna clip is quite the example I would choose to use (did you fall off your chair in shock adem?) I agree wholeheartedly with your point that there is no real cause and effect relationship between violence in media and violence in real life.

Unfortunately it’s an easy correlation to make and the media is a much easier problem to manage than dealing with the apathetic, nihilistic path our society has chosen. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not suggesting that this video doesn’t ooze both nihilism and apathy, but like most art, it’s a relflection of society and not the other way around. It’s kind of like shooting the messenger really…. do gooders can pat themselves on the back for combatting the ultimite evil of generic french house producers while turning a blind eye to the real problems of the world. I mean watch one of the many videos online of captured kid solidiers in Iraq and afganastan being shot and decaptitated and then tell me what’s fucking our kids up… and I’ll spare you the rest of the rant……

I do really like this video but it hasn’t blown my mind in any way. I think it’s because I already had come to daddy in my head when I watched it (which incidently I now also get confused with the mighty boosh episode ‘nannagoon’) But points for the concept, dead eyse and the bit where they kick “D.A.N.C.E.” out of the car stereo.

Wow, that’s quite a video. Very disturbing and yet thought-provoking as well. For a second there, I was like, are these dudes acting?! Super realistic and super STRESSFUL! Kudos for posting and standing up for your opinion.

love that video! But wait, how many ‘greatest hits’ can one have on so little proper hits (not saying her songs are ‘meh’, Neon Disco or whatever it as called, was rather good, actually, that seems like her only proper release here in the UK…). Enjoy the taping, let us know what it was like.

I’ve just got back from spitting my phlegm over the balcony of a tower block and then giving people the finger. This video has liberated my life (I spit like Kate Winslet in Titanic though so it didn’t have the same effect!)

Why did you not decorate your house in epilepsy inducing strobe lights after seeing the WOW video? I did and now i feel like you are judging me

Yeah I’m fairly sure “Cat & The Eye” will not see an OS release. From what I’ve been told, it’s all about launching with “Strangers” over there at some point Paul.

Paul: Agreed on the Peter Alphabet NY Remix thing… 4 minutes in and it’s a corker. That first bit I can do without though! Really glad to hear you like the album so much! I won’t be surprised at all if this does also end up in my top 10 records for the year, but I don’t think it will be any higher than #3 or #4. The Presets, Cut Copy, and — once it’s actually released — Van She, are all, in my opinion, slightly higher placed long players. What an exciting year for music 2008 is turning out to be!

D’luv: Thoughts on the album now? Hilariously, I read your second comment as “If she keeps spreading her legs that far, half of New York, L.A. and Mimi is eventually going to come sliding out.”

Brad: Yeah I think so too. I’m actually quite surprised with the overall turn-out for this album; sound and bloggers-review wise. Whilst not everyone loves it, there is a lot more appreciation for it than I was expecting.

Ben: Wendy! I understand the Incredible-Beat Goes On-Dance 2night hump, though I’m REALLY starting to go BACK to Dance 2night a lot more than I originally was. I think that chorus, and that final 30 seconds is what seems to have reeled me in. (Work.)

What an excellent review. Now that I have listened to the album in full, I feel I can comment. I’m Mariah Carey crazy about She’s Not Me (Wendy!), Heartbeat and Give It 2 Me while not so about Incredible, The Beat Goes On and Dance 2night (it’s my hump as you call it). And despite you thinking I would hate Spanish Lesson, I don’t. Who knew she was a teacher and was so concerned about me doing my homework?
Ultimately, Madonna goes black: me likey!
